Wir sind enorm aufgeregt unser IN-STORE COMIC-FESTIVAL 2024 ankündigen zu dürfen:
Die PICTOPIA COMIC-TAGE, bei denen sich alles um die Independent Comic-Szene Wien dreht!
Am Donnerstag dem 10. und Freitag dem 11. Oktober präsentieren wir in unserer Buchhandlung eine Vielzahl spannender Künstler:innen der Wiener Comic-Szene und gewähren Einblicke in aktuelle Projekte und die Situation von Comicschaffenden in Österreich.
Neben Interviews, Präsentationen und Signierstunden finden die Vernissage einer Poster-Ausstellung, eine Verlagsdiskussion sowie ein Live-Porträt-Zeichnen statt – samt DJ-Sets und jeder Menge Party!
Für junge Comic-Interessierte bieten wir am Samstag dem 12.10. einen eigenen Comiczeichnen-Workshop für Kinder und Jugendliche an.
FUN DAY Donnerstag 10. Oktober:
Tag Eins unseres Festivals steht im Zeichen von Abwechslung und Unterhaltung.
Kick-Off der PICTOPIA COMIC-TAGE ist um 18:30 Uhr die Vernissage unserer Poster-Ausstellung, bei der wir Euch Drucke von Künstler:innen wie Janne Marie Dauer, Vinz Schwarzbauer, Anrulf Rödler, Franz Suess, Mafutofu, Nina Buchner und vielen anderen präsentieren.
Jeder Druck ist auf 10 Exemplare limitiert, nummeriert und signiert und die Künstler:innen stellen Euch ihre Motive vor Ort vor. Die Ausstellung wird von Gig-Poster-Virtuose Michael Hacker kuratiert, der auch für unseren Festival-Flyer verantwortlich zeichnet und selbst ein Poster ausstellt.
Danach fokussieren wir auf Comic-Unterhaltung aus Österreich:
Um 19:30 Uhr entführt uns Albert Mitringer, Autor der Kult-Fantasy-Graphic Novel REQUIEM, zurück in die Steinzeit zu seinem aktuellen Comic-Projekt mit Arbeitstitel OMEGA. Mitringer erzählt darin, wie die Menschheit auf den Hund gekommen sein könnte, als ein Steinzeitmensch unbeabsichtigt einen Wolf zähmte. Das Buch ist derzeit im Entstehen und wir bekommen exklusive Vorab-Einblicke in diese Graphic Novel eines fesselnden Autors.
Um 20:30 Uhr folgt die Präsentation von André Breinbauers in-the-making-Graphic Novel mit Arbeitstitel ORLOK , die von Friedrich Wilhelm Murnaus Horrorfilm-Klassiker “NOSFERATU: Eine Symphonie des Grauens” beeinflusst ist. Der Comicautor der vielbeachteten Neudichtung der griechischen Sage von MEDUSA UND PERSEUS nimmt sich hier eines ganz anderen Mythos an: Er überführt den unsterblichen Vampirfürsten aus Transsylvanien ganz einfach nach Wien und gewährt uns eine Vorschau auf kommendes Grauen.

Um 21:30 Uhr sinkt die Temperatur mit Daniel Andrew Wunderers und Arnulf Rödlers Coming-Of-Age-Horror-in-der-Arktis-Geschichte RAIN/FALL, die bereits erfolgreich gekickstartet wurde. Mit etwas Glück ist diese packende Dystopie aus dem hohen Norden, die vom Südtiroler Filmemacher geschrieben und vom FALCO-Künstler in Szene gesetzt wurde, zum Festival schon erschienen und wir können Euch im Anschluß an die Präsentation eine Signierstunde bieten.
Der letzte Programmpunkt am Donnerstag Abend ist ab ca 22:30 Uhr ein Live-Porträt-Zeichnen unserer Gäst:innen durch Ausnahmekünstler Franz Suess – parallel zu einem musikalisch neophilen DJ-Set von Bertram “Cowboy Jim” Könighofer!
ART DAY Freitag 11. Oktober:
Am zweiten Tag unseres Festivals befassen wir uns mit Comicschaffenden, die durch ihre besonders individuelle Stilistik, formale Experimentierfreudigkeit oder durch die thematische Ernsthaftigkeit ihrer Themen punkten.
Zu Beginn wollen wir um 18:30 Uhr mit einer Verlagsdiskussion jedoch die Veröffentlichungs-Realitäten für Comics in Österreich näher beleuchten:
Jürgen Lagger vom Luftschacht Verlag, der als erster Verlag der jüngeren Vergangenheit österreichische Graphic Novels verlegt, bespricht mit Selbstverleger Daniel Andrew Wunderer (ACID ACCESSOIRES) die jeweils spezifischen Vorteile sich heutzutage selber zu verlegen versus verlegt zu werden. Möglichkeiten von Förderungen und Strategien, mit denen ein Druckwerk an eine breitere Öffentlichkeit kommen kann, wollen wir dabei ebenfalls erörtern.

Um 19:30 Uhr tauchen wir dann in das faszinierende Universum von Kristian Ujheljis abstrakten Comics ab.
Kristian Ujheljis Seiten fallen durch ihre ausgereifte Ästhetik und das präzise Design ihrer Kompositionen sofort ins Auge – scheinbar bedienen sie sich jedoch nicht klassisch linearer Erzählmuster. Wieviel “Story” steckt in diesen Comics drin? Bei einer Präsentation seiner Arbeit und im Gespräch mit Kristian können wir uns dem Mysterium seiner psychedelisch anmutenden Arbeiten eventuell nähern.
Albert Huspeka präsentiert uns um 20:30 Uhr sein aktuelles historisches Comic-Projekt mit Arbeitstitel DIE ERINNERUNGEN DES LEOPOLD SIEBENHANDEL, in dem er die Erlebnisse eines Wachauer Bauern während des zweiten Weltkriegs schildert. Albert Huspeka setzt dabei die Erinnerungen seines Interviewpartners, welche ihm dieser kurz vor seinem Tod anvertraut hat, in Comicform um. Zur Zeit ist dieses historisch triftig erzählende Projekt für den Comicbuchpreis der Berthold Leibinger-Stiftung eingereicht.
Zum krönenden Abschluss unseres ART DAYS gibt uns Lenz Mosbacher um 21:30 Uhr einen exklusiven Vorab-Einblick in seinen Comicroman BEUYS: Grenzen der Fiktion, der sich mit dem berühmten, geliebten und gehassten Künstler und Umweltaktivisten Joseph Beuys beschäftigt.
Das Buch ist dabei nicht als herkömmliche Biographie angelegt sondern als eine fiktionale Auseinandersetzung mit den Mythen und Erzählungen, die sich um Beuys ranken. Ein erstes für sich stehendes Kapitel aus diesem Graphic Novel-Großprojekt ist heuer unter dem Titel BEUYS-MEINHOF erschienen.
Den musikalischen Ausklang des Freitag Abend beschert uns ab 22:30 Uhr ein eklektisches DJ-Set von Christian Wellmann, dem langjährigen künstlerischen Leiter des NEXTCOMIC-Festival Linz, der extra angereist kommt um unsere Party-Stimmung garantieren zu können!
KIDS DAY Samstag 12. Oktober:
Am Samstag Nachmittag veranstalten wir von 14 bis 17:30 Uhr einen Comic-Zeichnen-Workshop für Kinder und Jugendliche im Alter von 10 bis 15 Jahren.
Kursleiter ist Comickünstler André Breinbauer, der bereits seit vielen Jahren als Zeichenlehrer in Wien tätig ist.
Der Eintritt ist frei.
Den Comic-Zeichnen-Workshop veranstalten wir in Kooperation mit dem Zentrum 9 – dem wunderbaren Jugendzentrum direkt ums Eck von unserer Buchhandlung.
Fixer Treffpunkt für alle Teilnehmer:innen ist um 14 Uhr in unserer Buchhandlung.
Dort geben wir Euch eine kleine Einführung, was Comics eigentlich sind und wie sie mit Bildern erzählen.
Danach gehen wir gemeinsam als Gruppe ins Zentrum 9, wo wir in einem eigenen Raum 2 Stunden lang unter Andrés Anleitung gemeinsam zeichnen können.
Für Zeichenmaterialien und Papier sowie für eine Jause vor Ort ist gesorgt.
Abholen können Eure Eltern Euch wieder um 17:30 Uhr in unserer Buchhandlung.

Bitte gebt uns bis Freitag dem 4.10. via E-mail an office@pictopia.at Bescheid, ob Eure Kinder an dem Workshop verbindlich teilnehmen. Ihr könnt uns gerne auch schon mitteilen, ob Euer Kind bereits alleine heimgehen darf oder jedenfalls abgeholt wird.

Mein Dank gilt allen Künstler:innen, die uns dabei unterstützen und es uns erlauben, dieser wunderbaren Szene eine Bühne zu bieten.
Nutzt die Gelegenheit des Festivals, um mit einer pulsierenden Kunstform in Berührung zu kommen, in der es noch jede Menge kultureller Schätze zu entdecken gibt!
